May 28 the week I turned into an OLD MAID

30 May
Hehehe. Just kidding. I’m FINALLY 23. Whenever people asked how old I was, I would always want to say more, because saying I was 22 felt weird, because I feel more mature than 22. But hey… now I’m 23! Cool beans!
What did I do to celebrate my 23d year of life? I went to McDonalds. It was awesome. There are only McDonalds here in Montevideo and one in Maldonado, and so to celebrate we went (see attached picture of me feasting). It was pretty awesome. I also found some Chipotle peppers, and I was overjoyed that I would have spicy food. Best. Birthday. Ever. Other than that we just walked around everywhere trying to find people to teach. That’s what we’re on the hunt for. We have a lot of eternal investigators, but we need people who are ready to make these covenants. Pray that we find miracles!
I don’t really remember what else happened. This week seemed like an ETERNITY, because we wanted to celebrate.  But it’s passed now. This is already week 3 of the change–that’s crazy. It’s weird how sometimes a week can go by sooooo slow, yet fast at the same time. Time as a missionary is a weird thing. I only have 4 1/2 months left. THAT’S INSANE. But… yeah. Ok, well, I’m gonna go and help a member make her birthday feast. She’s our neighbor and she’s amazing and so we are spending the day with her and her kids. She made me that cake that I attached a picture of.
Sorry I don’t have much more to talk about, this week wasn’t very eventful except for McDonalds, which is always a win in Uruguay. Ok, love you! Thanks for the birthday saludos!

the week i was thrown in “da hood”

21 May

So, my area is GHETTO. But, like, GHEEEETTTTOOOOOOOOO. I won’t tell you how ghetto, but its enough that I seriously want you guys to pray for me and my companion to be safe. Yeah. ´nuff said. There’s a street here called Justicia,… and it’s the biggest drug street ever. It’s so ironic. Don’t worry, we avoid that street as if it has the black plague. Because it probably does.

But the members here are awesome. The ward has some unity, and we are trying to help with that. We have a lot of eternal investigators, aka, eternagators. But they’re loyal, and come to church, and each one for their own reasons haven’t actually been baptized. But I have hope! They’re such great people!
We went to changes on Tuesday! Monday was crazy. After I emailed we went to the zoo with Elder DeSalvo and Nuñez. It was so much fun! I saw a lion! Rawrz! She LUNGED at me, but luckily, there was a wimpy chain link fence in between us. One more lunge, and I’m sure I would have been mauled, buuuuuuuut all is well! I had a carpincho (a capybara) bark, or whatever that sound was… at me, after I snapped a picture. It scared me. Basically, the animals all hated me, so that was scary. Not the most Snow White moment, but it was a lot of fun spending some time with the elders on our last day in San Jose. We all got along really well.
Then, later that night, we went to say goodbye to some members. Saying bye to Laura and Nilo was super hard. Their house was like our Guayan home. I cried. I never cryyyyy! But saying bye to Laura after all her amazing advice and help and laughs was very hard. They’re getting sealed in July, and the comp I have now, Hna. Acosta, is like literally their adopted child, and so Laura and Nilo are going to ask the mission president if we can go to their sealing. That is, if we are together. It would be perfection if we are together when they get sealed.
I read my convert, Maxi´s letter. He is TOTALLY going on a mission. He said hes going to try and leave in November. Which means if he gets his call in the next 5 months, I can go to the temple when he goes through. Which would be AMAZING. Because he told us one of his dreams once, and it was the temple. Exactly. To the t. He is going to be so happy when he goes. I NEED to be there.
I’m really excited to be here in Maldonado. Especially with Hermana Acosta. Her and I get along really well. Ok. I love you all so much. Happy birthday to me on Saturday. 23. I’m so old. So so very old. Haha.
1. You know my love for choripan? Well, there was a ward activity, and we had to leave before everyone ate, so they threw choripan in a bag and gave it to us. I was so happy.
2. Mate amigo. I love Uruguay. There are hot water vending machines for their thermos for their mate. They’re not addicted AT ALL.
3. Me and Agustin! This is one of Laura’s kids. He is so cool. This was at that asado we had on Sunday.
5. Hna. Rodriguez, yours truly, Elder DeSalvo, Facundo, Laura, Nilo, Rodrigo, Agustin and Elder Nuñez. This was Monday night before we said goodbye! How emo.
6. So, our neighbors are members, and we share a wall. We needed a pan last night, and so we hollered over the wall, and then we snapped a picture. This is Hna. Acosta and me! Yaaaay!

Mar 14 13 months down, 5 to go!!

21 May

Um. I talked with you guys yesterday. But there are changes! I’M GOING TO MALDONADO! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Finally. Every hermana goes through Maldonado, it’s all touristy and beachy! Yay! And I’m going with Hna. Acosta, who I LOVE!!! I’m excited to be with her.

This week was so spiritually amazing. There were so many mean people that we ran into. But, I mean like, really horrible, mean people, and it was really hard. But at the same time, I had the opportunity to testify a lot about Jesus Christ. I never cry, and tears totally came outta my face when I did. I realized this week how much I’ve grown up, and all that I’ve learned. But I’m most grateful for my testimony of Jesus Christ. I know for certain that He is my Savior, and that through Him, I can have everlasting joy with you all, and my future family (Oh man. I just went there, haha). I know that the atonement came from the infinite love that He has for us. And because of the atonement, I’ll have…. I don’t know how to describe it. Bliss, is the word that came to mind. We can get to that bliss that our Father in Heaven wants us to have.

I’ve gotten so much closer to Him and Heavenly Father, and I’m a much happier person now because of that. I know I was happy before, but I’m starting to feel that pure joy that the scriptures always talk about. And I never want to let that go. I’m glad I came on the mission to establish this foundation. I’ve met so many amazing members here in San Jose that have inspired me, and I’m going to miss them. But I know that the Lord needs me to be in Maldonado, and that I have a lot to learn there. I’m very excited. I love you all so much!

Ok, gotta go! We are going to the zoo to celebrate Elder Nuñez ending his mission! Wow. One day I’ll get there. Haha. Love yooooooooooooooou!!

May 7 the week I put some 10 year olds in check

11 May

Some kids here are RUDE. And so some dumb kids were talking smack while walking behind us, and so I turned around, and was like “Little boy, what did you say???” and they shut up, and then I told them that they need to respect people, because it’s what Jesus did, and if they don’t do what Jesus did they won’t be happy and so that’s why they need to shut up. Hahaha. I’m such a jerk. But they did not say nice things, soooooo they deserved it.

This week was “veranillo”… So Uruguay is weird, and for one week in the fall it gets SUPER hot, and then all of the sudden it’s as cold as it gets. So that was this last week. It’s really cool here. You can tell when it’s going to rain, because the air feels different and it gets really hot. I feel like the weather (wo)man.

We have one investigator here; her name is Yessica. She looks like Shakira, and talks like her, and even sings just like her. She’s so awesome. She’s 19, and she adores this couple that recently got sealed. She didn’t believe in God when we met her, but now she wants to hear more and more from us, and she definitely accepted the invitation to be baptized, but then when we tried to put a fecha for baptism (the 26th… my birthday… HINTHINTHINT) she was like “No! NOOOOO!!! There is no way I am getting baptized in the month of May.” I was surprised. I kinda knew she was going to say no, but I didn’t expect that response. But she’s amazing, and she’s cried the both times she’s come to church, and even in the last 2 charlas so she’s gonna get baptized, but just not when I’m here. Boooo.

Change calls are this Sunday! I kinda wanna stay in San Jose, but I’m ready for a new comp. I really like San Jose, but we´ll see where I go. I think I’m going to Parque del Plata. I had a dream I went back to Melo, to Gianola. It was the BESSSSSSST. I hope I’m secretly psychic and it happens.

Hey! I get to see you guys on Sunday! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!! I love you all so much it hurts my tiny soul.

Apr 30 the week of i had a fever and the only prescription was….

6 May

2 BAPTISMS!! YAY!! Mayra and Ruben got baptized!! But the opposition came to ME. Because Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, not gonna lie, probably should have gone to the hospital. I had a feverrrrrrrrrrrrr that had me confused and crazy and sweating and saying whatever. I remember I was writing something in my journal, and I woke up, and I had drawn a tombstone and I wrote my name, and it said “but at least they got baptized”… Hahahaha. I seriously do NOT remember drawing that… but I’m better now. Yay!

Figuring out the heater for the baptism was INSANE. We went at 3:00 to figure it out. Then the elders came. We tried to turn it on; that didn’t work. Then called a member. The member called a member, the members called 2 others to come, and then it was 5:00, the baptism started at 6:00, and we had a font full of cold water, and it was FREEZING outside. So then we figured out that the gas wasn’t on in the building, and so we called the gas man and he came at like 5:30, and then the gas came on, and the hot water came, and then we ended up having the baptism at like 6:40. Whoooops. But Mayra and Ruben didn’t mind.

Mayra has 2 little brothers who are twins who are INSANE, and they DESTROYEDDDDD the primary. I felt bad. But they’re so cute. I love baptism. The spirit always comes so strongly when the prayer is being said, it’s so amazing and true. I’m so glad we have the priesthood in this church. 🙂 I’m also glad I finally got to give my oro a baptism experience. This was a true miracle, They just fell into our laps, so I’m grateful that even though we aren’t getting along, the Lord still provides a way for us to get along, even if it’s for 45 minutes during a lesson. Haha.

I remember that before we went out to teach Ruben and Mayra (because I didn’t care how sick I was, I was gonna teach them) I would say the weakest prayer and then snail walk all the way to their house which is faaaaaaaaar away, and somehow when I got there I had the energy to teach. It really was a miracle. Because when I walked out, it all drained away and I plopped on my bed once I got home.

Today was the BEST P-DAY EVERRRR!!!!!!!!!! So we had to go to Montevideo, because my comp had to get a background check for her visa. And I thought it was just going to be us in Tres Cruces, but we get into the main waiting area and BAM. Like, everyone I know on the mission was there!! Even Elder Liddle, who was in my district the last 2 changes, and was here in San Jose was there! And Elder Trejo who is still there. We all bonded and talked about how awesome our district was. We were definitely the loudest of all the like 20 missionaries that were there. Whoops. It was the best reunion ever! But they were all there to sign their visas, like I did a couple of weeks ago, and we were there for another reason. So the secretaries put us in a taxi and we ended up in some random spot of Montevideo waiting for them, and yeah. She got her background check. We have to go to Montevideo again next week I think for her to actually GET her visa. I’m gonna be so poor. Bus tickets ain’t cheap!

It was so great to see everyone. Elder Rodriguez told me that they got robbed in Las Piedras. At home. While they were sleeping. Hahahaha. They even stole their gas tank for the stove. I was like “HOW did you not wake up?” “I dunno…. I was TIRED!!!” Plus, they live on the 4th floor. We decided that the thieves had a trampoline. It’s the only logical solution.

Today was a lot of fun. I like today. I needed a good day like this. Some good, healthy and happy human interaction. I love you all. Pray this week I don’t get sick and draw things in my fever sleep!!
